Today I had the opportunity to attend several very nice receptions & parties given in honor of the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States. My favorite of the day was the Essence Magazine/Perennial Brunch hosted at the Swedish Embassy (the event I co-hosted with a wonderful group of young folks at Acadiana was my second favorite). It was truly an event to remember and I was privileged to be among the invited guests.

However, what made the day so special was not that I got to meet TD Jakes, or Richard Roundtree (the original Shaft)–or that I got my photo taken with actresses Victoria Rowell, and Kerry Washington, my girls at Essence (Angela, Mikki, Dawn, Tatasha) and two of my favorite brothers–CSI’s Hill Harper & BET’s Jeff Johnson. No, what made the day so special was the mood in Washington D.C. and the spirit of true unity, love, and CAN DO attitude that is palpable among people of all races, creeds and colors.

I have been to Washington back and forth since I was a teenager. I know politics and I know Washington and I have never seen or experienced anything like this before. Tomorrow my two young nieces arrive here in Virginia to attend the Swearing-in-and Parade on Tuesday. What they do not yet know is that Aunt Sophia scored some tickets to the Inaugural Kid’s concert at the Verizon Center featuring Mylie Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana), the Jonas brothers, Usher, Bow wow, and others. These two little girls, will have the experience of a lifetime. They will tell their grandchildren that they saw the first black President of the United States Inaugurated.

I will post up some pictures of this awesome time on Wednesday when the dust settles here in Washington. These are special times. The times that we will remember, forever.

Be blessed.
